Laptop video card compatible with desktop video cards?

Is it possible to take a video card from a laptop and use it on a desktop, because I recently bought the sims3 but I need a new video card, I have a laptop, but the screen is broken I was wondering if the video card from the laptop would word on the desktop.The desktop is a hp, not sure what year, and the laptop is a compaq.
