Upgrading desktops video card - have questions!?

I am upgrading my new HP p6204y desktop with a new video card that supports HDMI. The monitor I purchased with it is an HD monitor and the quality would look so much better, I believe, if I upgrade. My PC currently has a 250w power supply so I know I will need to upgrade that as well.

Is there any brand suggestions for video cards and power supplies? I was looking on NewEgg and saw a ton of decent priced items, but I am clueless as to what I purchase. I don't want anything expensive - so if I can get something decent priced that will work, it will be perfect.|||First of all you need to know 'if' you need a new power supply.

In your case it really depends on the graphic card you are going to buy. If you are buying a low end graphics card (a lot which usually support HDMI today) then probably you are fine with a 250W power supply

Here is what I found out about your pc's power consumption:

Processor - 65 Watt

Mobo - around 62 Watts

HDD + DVD RW - around 40 Watts

So if you get a graphics cards like the latest DX11 ATI Radeon HD 5450 (my recommendation, got released today and costs around 60$, newegg link --->) then you might be fine but its is recommended that you get a 300W power supply to make sure your system is stable.

I recommend:

Power Supply around 30$ - COOLER MASTER Elite 460 RS-460-PSAR-J3 460W ATX12V V2.31 Power Supply ---> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

ATI Radeon HD 5450 around 60$- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

Personally I would buy a graphics card and plug it in and see if it runs fine with the current power supply, but I will not recommend that you do that.

When getting a Power Supply you should make sure you get a reputed brand! Brands like FSP Group, Antec, Aero Cool, Cooler Master, CORSAIR, Foxconn and Zalman are pretty reliable. Others you just have to search the internet for.

I had a system like yours a while ago and I upgraded to a mid-high end graphics card and still used my old 300W power supply and the system still runs fine. Hope this helped.

What is a good Video Card brand with an NVIDIA chipset?

I'm shopping around for desktop video cards. I just want a higher quality manufacturer (like Maxtor is to hard drives) and I would like it to have an NVIDIA-made chipset. Also a Composite-Video our S-Video out will be necessary. I don't want something over-priced or that lights up or anything fancy, I just want something that isn't going to have any kinds of problems.|||Try going with EVGA. I build computers for myself, friends and relatives, and I always use EVGA cards with nVidia chipsets. They are available at Circuit City. But it is much cheaper to buy them online at newegg.com. Try this link:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis…

I have it narrowed down to EVGA cards with nVidia chipsets. I don't know what type of interface you need (AGP, PCIe, etc.) or what size of memory you want. You'll have to sort by the interface first, and then see which ones left have the video out that you want. Then pick the amount of memory you want from what's left of those.

Also see evga.com.

Hope this helps!|||I'd stick with nVidia.

Difference between laptop and desktop video cards?

I have a Ati Mobility Radeon 3650 vRam 512mb DDR3. (This is a laptop video card)

How much better/worse is that from an ATI X1800 or Nvidia Geforce 7800 (Desktop Video Cards). I understand video cards pretty well, but I don't exactly know how to judge between desktop and laptop video cards.

The reason I am asking this is because I am wondering how well I can play COD4. I have a Sony Vaio FW:

http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665507465|||The ATI Mobility Radeon 3650 supports DirectX10 and the ATI X1800 and the GeForce 7800 only support DirectX 9.0c. However the Mobility Radeon 3650 is not that great because laptop cards are made to consume little power, thus offering a lot less graphical power. Also many laptop cards suffer from incompatibilities with certain games.|||They're all different cards. If you compare apples to apples - say nVidia 8800GTS and nVidia 8800M, there are some small differences, mainly to reduce power consumption.|||Most laptop video devices are integrated into the motherboards, whereas desktop cards can be upgraded

Is there any requirements to upgrade your desktop video card?

I mean, do you need a better motherboard or processor to upgrade your video card?

I am actually planning to upgrade mine, cause last week i bought a desktop computer @ bestbuy and here's the spec.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Gateway+-+De…

Note: Please Click on Spec. Tab.

I wanted to upgrade the video card into GeForce GTS 450. Do you guys think that will work?|||It will work.

The only thing you need is a PCIE x16 expansion slot which this has.

Also make sure you PSU is big enough. Try look on the PSU for the wattage. You should need around 500 watts total for this configuration and this even allows for a little bit of wiggle room. Sometimes though prebuilts have very small PSUs like 300 or 400 so check on that (I didn't see it in the spec tab) Other than that GPUs can fit on any motherboard for the most part

Best desktop video card?

Hey guys,

Just got an HP quad core and looking to upgrade the video card from the GeForce 9300GE it came with. I would like something under $200 and will be able to play me most of the games coming out in the next few years at close to max settings.

So is it possible?

Thanks|||I suggest the ATI 4850. Nice card. Basically edges out the Nvidia 9800GTX+ with it winning some gaming benchmarks and the 9800GTX+ winning some. Thing is, when the 9800GTX+ wins its not by a lot and sometimes its so little you wouldn't notice the difference while in some benchmarks, like Bioshock, the 4850 destroys the 9800GTX+. Here's some gaming benchmarks that may help you decide:

http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.a…

Something to think about is that you will probably have to upgrade the power supply in your HP with one that has both the watts AND +12V amps to power bigger cards if you haven't already done so. Don't need 1000 watts. A Corsair 450 watt PSU will easily power an ATI 4850 or Nvidia 9800GTX+ provided your HP doesn't use a proprietory PSU.

Without knowing what board your HP has I don't know why someone would say that you can "always" buy 2 cards and run CF???|||Being a ATI guy, the ATI Radeon HD 4850 is sure to be a price versus performance champ as the MSRP is $199 and will certainly go lower just like the Radeon HD 3850 did after it was launched.

Dell Inspiron 530s (slim chasis) desktop Video Card Help?

I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 530s (slim chasis) desktop... I need to put in a video card that has dual monitor output. Its a 1.6 GHZ with 1GB DDR2 SDRAM. Basically the computer needs to support two monitors. The card Office Max sold us, was not "recognized" by the computers... additionally they were TOO big for the "slim chasis" that this Dell Desktop is in. Can someone assist me with which video card I need to pick up, please? Also, it'd help if they offer this card at Office Max because thats where my spending account is through. Thanks.|||Almost every single low-profile case that has dual outputs loses the second monitor port when you replace the regular bracket with the low profile bracket. This card is probably the only one that will work for your application because it stacks both outputs on top of each other in the low profile configuration instead of side to side on a regular bracket like the other low profile cards which makes them only good for one monitor when you replace the bracket. You will need a free space below the PCI graphics slot so that means you will probably lose a PCI slot:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowImage.…|||The 530s has a choice between graphics on the motherboard (Intel Integradted Video) or an add-in pci-express X16 graphics card (low profile). There are LP dual monitor PCI-E cards, but you have to pick one that fits in the slimline chassis and one that does not consume more power than the system can supply.

Since you recently purchased the dell, you still have (free) technical support. Call or email them and ask which graphics cards have been tested with this PC.

In my opinion, OfficeMax is not the best place to buy complicated hardware such as graphics cards. They do not have the technical expertise nor the selection that you are looking for, especially when it comes to specialized parts for small systems.

Good luck.|||there are several low-profile video cards available with dual monitor capability, but to be honest with you, I tried to do the exact same thing at my job on in Insp.530 low profile (I'm a comp specialist at major university), and it wouldn't recognize the card. Something odd about the motherboard blocked every card I tried. I ended up adding one of those crappy usb video cards to activate the 2nd monitor. Don't try any gaming on that one though...sorry I'm not more help, but I just wanted to let you know that you may be out of luck.

Hp pavilion slimline desktop video card issues, am I doomed from playing Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3?

I have an HP desktop slimline s5390d brand new with Intel® Core i3 , Microsoft Windows 7 Home Basic (32-bit), 2GB RAM, but video card Integrated on motherboard (see motherboard and chipset) (with 128MB shared graphics memory). It took me a long time to keep saving on this and was attracted on the minimal space it required, and was planning on buying a great video card later after saving. Starcraft 2 is coming and it requires great performing video card which I don't think is supported by my new desktop. It's just recently that I discovered slimlines only allow low profile video cards. Has anyone found a half sized video card with low power usage that is able to play the coming games. I am beginning to really regret buying this non-upgradeable desktop and it has only just been less than a month. Or am I doomed on not being able to play these games unless I buy a new desktop designed for gaming. Please help|||Something like this : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as… is what you are going to need. Without knowing the specifics about the game you are trying to play, I don't know if it is "enough" video card for it. This what I found for requirements: The minimum system requirements for the Starcraft II Beta are as follows:

PC Minimum Requirements:

• Windows XP SP3/Vista SP1/Windows 7

• 2.2 Ghz Pentium IV or equivalent AMD Athlon processor

• 1 GB system RAM/1.5 GB for Vista and Windows 7

• 128 MB NVidia GeForce 6600 GT/ATI Radeon 9800 PRO video card

• 1024x768 minimum display resolution

• 4 GB free hard space (Beta)

• Broadband connection

Here is what your motherboard has and supports: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docum…

This is the problem with "slimline" or "all-in-one" computers. They are very restricted in their ability to upgrade. What you buy is often all you will ever have.

Which is the best video card currently for desktops?

and is my laptop compatible? (I have an adapter to connect desktop video cards to laptops)

intel core i5 480M @ 2.67GHz and 6 GB DDR3|||It depends on the version of the ViDock you have. http://www.villageinstruments.com/tiki-i…

With a 225W maximum for the ViDock 4 plus, the best video card you can put in there is the GeForce GTX 570 Anything better will require an 8-pin PCIe power connector that the ViDock can't deliver. Lesser ViDocks can only support lower wattage cards.

Note: a high end video card in a ViDock takes a major performance penalty compared to a a desktop. The ExpressCard interface only has a single 1.0 lane - i.e. PCI Express 1.0 x1 compared to the desktop's PCI Express 2.0 x16. That will give your roughly half the graphic performance in a laptop compared to the same card in a modern desktop.|||its an ATi Radeon NX series. you can only get one off an apple machine but they are the strongest. Theres no way you can connect a video card to a laptop like that. No adapter can fix the bottleneck which would be the port on the computer. If you bought something like that, you need to get your money back. video cards need a direct connection to the motherboard to work. dont go thinking you can just plug it into a USB port or something like that. You need a connection a few thousand times faster.|||Not sure how that works mate. new one on me.

The best way to connect your computer to a tv without a video card?

i have a pc running windows xp and want to know what is the best and cheapest way to connect my computer to the tv without a video card without rca jacks and without a cable output/input (aka the stock dell desktop video card)|||Well, you HAVE to have a video card to display anything...If you get that then I say do S-Video...Very simple....

Thanx,

How to pick the right video card?

I was planning on upgrading my desktops video card... so my question is how do i pick the right one for my desktop? what do i look for and such.. thanks|||First thing, you need to make sure it is supported by your motherboard (i.e. the correct PCI type). Secondly it should have the outputs you want (HDMI, VGA, DVI, etc.). Thirdly your card must must support the correct version of DirectX (XP and Vista are 10, Windows 7 is 11). Now pick a card and go to the websites for games you like to play and ensure that the games you like are supported on your chosen card.

That's the sequence I follow for picking out a card for my build. But the website below will offer more info and things to look for.|||first determine what cpu you have, if it is an amd cpu most of those will be running on chipsets which dont support SLI (2 Nvidia cards working together) so you would be better off with an (Ati) card, (incase you ever want to utilize the crossfire feature (2 Ati cards working together). if you have an intel cpu then forget what i just said.

the key to knowing if card X is better than card Y at first glance is this:

if the name of the card is

Axyz then the A tells you how "new" it is, the xyz parts more or less denotes its power and how good it is

so (contrary to popular belief) an Ati 5850 for exanple would walk all over a 6670 even though the 6670 is "newer" but its not as powerful

this is also applicable to nvidia cards GTX 480 > GTX 550

also something to look out for is the memory (most are 1gb)

as for which particular one would be best for you, then it entirely depends on what you use your pc for! (what games you nplay and what resolution your monitor is but these are my recommendations (price taken into consideration)

Movies & casual gamer: ati 5670 $75 approx.

Gamer : Nvidia 460 GTX $155 approx.

serious gamer (high res. monitor) : Ati 6870 $190

Hardcore! (40 inch tv full hd madness LOL!): Ati 6950 2GB $275 approx.

youll find that various company will manufacture their own models based on these ones (eVGA, powercolor, HIS, XFX etc.) basically the onlt thing they differ in is the type of cooler they sick on it so it doesnt really matter which onre you buy!

good luck man i hope i helped!

edit: but yeah you do have to provide more info on motherboard etc. to iron out any compatibility issues you may have|||First off we need to know what your motherboard supports as far as video cards so a model specification would be nice, also what are you wanting to do with the video card? Gaming? Blu-Ray movies? Regular movies?|||well obviously price, but other than that I can't help you much (still learning)

I would recommend AMD for eyefinity (and better prices!)

I plan to get AMD 6870 black edition (1gb gddr5, eyefinity, hd3d, crossfirex support) its ranges from $170 to $240|||I agree with everything everyone else is saying, but you also need to be sure that your power supply will be able to handle whatever card you get.|||Depends on what you will be playing, the size of your case, your power supply and your processor.

I'd say get something like a 5770.|||It will be depending on what software you are installing in your desktop. But if you want a very good video card try Nvidia 2gb

Desktop: video card has a S-Video and I need to connect it to my monitor (VGA).?

I recently replaced my video card because the old one heated up. This new one has DVI and S-Video options, and my monitor only has VGA. What cable would work?

Will this one work?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000P3UB24/ref=aw_cr_d_electronics

I've tried connecting my computer to a TV via S-Video, an it worked. Does that mean that the adapter in the link will work?|||No. That adapter is for going the OTHER way, VGA -> S-Video. You need S-Video -> VGA.

Laptop Video Card VS Desktop Video Card?

Ok..

So I have an Acer 17' Laptop- i7 - 8GB RAM - 1TB HDD - 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650...

I'm wondering about getting a new graphics card for my desktop. I was looking at the XFX HD-567X-ZNF3 Radeon HD 5670 1GB 128-bit DDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card. for 109$-130$

Would this make my desktop noticeably stronger than my laptop? I want to run Lumion flawlessly.

Would a 1GB Videocard perform better on a Desktop than on a Laptop? In comparing the specs, is it a good buy? How much should I spend on a good video card?

Thnx for the help, all answers welcome.|||laptop cards run 30-50% slower then their desktop counterpart (look at a 5870 vs mobile 5870, the mobile has half as many cores), so it would make gaming faster in any case where you cpu is not maxed out. the 720 or 740 you have will run faster then most tri cores

for rendering you should really look at getting a workstation card. and you didnt list and cpu models but you can look up the differences here. and ya, you would notice a difference between a 5670 and 5770 in gaming, cant say for rendering.

How do I compare laptop video cards to desktop video cards?

I understand that the first number is the series. How do you read the numbers in laptop video cards? For example the GeForce GT 335m vs GeForce 6600GT. Which is better? I don't know how to find out if my laptop video card can run games because the always say the desktop version. What is the equivalent to the GeForce GT 335m and how do you find out? I understand how to tell the better desktop card, so what is the difference?|||Desktops video cards are bigger and generally require more power....more powerful of course.|||What I do is. I goto WIKI.

so many factors come in on these stats. the bandwidth, the shaders, but also the bus-width.

also, just check out 3dmark06 scores and Vantage scores for the gt335 and than compare them to desktop cards.

A 3dmark06 score of 6100. thats pretty good.

http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/gamin…

compare it there, and it's like a 7900gtx, 1950xtx

so than do some more searching of other cards, and come across something like this....

http://www.legitreviews.com/article/486/…

and you have your answer. it's the equivalent to an xfx 8600gts XXX edition. which is a highly overclocked card.

so i usually go by 3dmark06 default score, which is 1280x1024 no AA.|||Desktop video cards are Tigers, laptop video cards are Cheetahs. They are both cats but do not mix well together even though they make their living the same way, they hunt.

You need to find websites that review laptop video cards. If you do some more research I’m sure you could find even more sites full of revues of laptop products.

What is the most powerful PC desktop video card currently in the market?

More specifically, which chip? the nVidia GTX 590, GTX 295 or some ATI ones? Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.|||In late 2010 Nvidia introduced their GeForce 500 series, beginning with the GTX 580 and GTX 570. The former has taken over the top spot in the single-GPU speed contest, but it comes at a price that makes two lesser cards in an SLI or Crossfire configuration a more practical option. The GTX 570 is a dialed down version of the 580, but it readily outperforms the previous generation GTX 480. 1.25 GB of GDDR5 memory is standard on the 570 and it has two 6-pin power connectors. Steps for replacing desktop video card?

I'm going to replace the PCI Express 2.0 x16 video card in my Dell desktop with another PCI-E 2.0 x16 and am wondering the steps that I should take to physically replace the old card with the new. Particularly, I'm wondering if I need to uninstall any drivers for the old card prior to removal or install drivers for the new card prior to installation. I'm running Win7 ultimate 64 bit.

Thanks in advance for the help!|||DO NOT LEAVE THE OLD DRIVERS

Uninstall any video drivers you now have even if they are for Video On Board. (via add/remove)

Shutdown

Remove the old card and Install the new card

Boot

Two methods

1. Windows will detect and try to install the new video card and will ask where the drivers are.

2. Put the Video drive disk in the CD/DVD (at this point the install program on the CD may start, just cancel out) and have windows seach for the drivers.

3. Have windows seach the CD/DVD

Method two. (Recommended)

1. When windows tries to install the drivers Cancel the install

2 Put in the CD and the installation process will start

DIDN'T happen?

3. Go to the CD and look for a setup file ending in .exe

4. Double click the setup file and follow the instructions.

This method will also install any utilities that came with the card.|||unplug EVERYTING, then open up the left side of the case from the front, gently insert the card into the pci slot, make sure it's secure, then screw it in to the back of the case, put everything back together and boot the machine and install the drivers|||It wont hurt to have your old drivers left on, but if your comfortable with the process it takes to remove them all thats always the best option.

As a side note, the new Nvidia drivers out cover most of the cards/series so you may already have the drivers necessary.

1: It needs to support dual monitors. I have two Dell G2410 24" monitors and I need the video card to be able to support both.

2: I don't need it for gaming capabilities. I need it for just basic computing and simple gaming (ie Rollercoaster Tycoon 1 / Zuma) that also can play movies and TV shows from iTunes.

I posted a question over at computerforums.com and they all gave me answers about gaming video cards that cost like 900 bucks. I don't really mind the price as long as it's not ridiculous.

Work with me people. Cheers!|||try ATi/radeon x1650

Desktop Video Card to 1080P LED TV. Which Cord To Use?

Hello, I am looking to use my new TV coming in Tuesday of next week as my monitor for my Desktop. I was wondering which cable I needed to have video going out from my computer to my television.

Would it be DVI to HDMI? or

Would it be HDMI to HDMI?

Which would give the best quality? And Also, I know if its HDMI to HDMI it wouldnt matter as if each side were male or female but if I had to go DVI to HDMI which side would both sides need to be male or female?

This is my video card-

Thanks everyone! :)|||Your video card seems to have an HDMI output, so I would have to say that would be your best option. HDMI is the superior output.|||I wonder that myself. I am still running my 37" HDTV with the desktop I built a month ago with the VGA. Somebody posted something I read and he said he had a better picture with the DVI to HDMI than HDMI to HDMI. I am pretty sure audio will not be transferred with the DVI cable. I personally am leaning towards this because I do not want audio from the tv. I have an Logitech 5.1 speaker system hooked up to the computer. On my tv one of the HDMI hookups is specifically if you use the DVI to HDMI. I am under the impression it is more of a personal preference. What looks good to you might not look good to me. Age, quality of eyesight, stuff like that. I get the feeling I will end up buying both cables to try. Found these on newegg.

I figure that the price of the 2 together with shipping is not to bad. By the way savage card. I used a XFX 5770. Do not game just wanted a decent graphics card. Hope this helps. Kinda figure it won't. Good Luck and enjoy the new hardware.

Updating Dell Studio Slim 540s Desktop video card Driver?

Okay, I seriously need help. I have no idea how to update my video card driver. I have done it before, but I had to restore my computer and I forgot how. My computer is a Dell Studio Slim 540s Desktop. I can't find a download anywhere!

Please help!|||http://support.dell.com/support/download…

scroll all the way down to the bottom and expand the "video" tab. download them all

make sure you put in if you have a 64 bit operating system or 32 bit. (most likely if its new and you have windows 7 its going to be 64, but if its vista i tend to think most of them are 32 bits)

for next time - go to google > type in "dell drivers" > first link > put in model type (second choice) > and narrow your search

Laptop video card compatible with desktop video cards?

Is it possible to take a video card from a laptop and use it on a desktop, because I recently bought the sims3 but I need a new video card, I have a laptop, but the screen is broken I was wondering if the video card from the laptop would word on the desktop. The desktop is a hp, not sure what year, and the laptop is a compaq. Please help!|||no, totally different architecture|||No.

Please check these desktop video cards out? Which one would be Good?

I found these video cards in ebay and they are cheaper than a thought, they are 512mb video cards and they are good brands like Nvidia and ATI.

I know they probably are not the latest video cards out there but they seem that can do the work.

I have a Dell Gx270 Desktop with 2.6Ghz and 512mb ram, and i wanted to upgrade the 64mb video card to a 256mb or 512mb.

Will any of these video cards be Good Please Check them out not just Skim through all.

Please Let me know which would be Good.

Your dell gx 270 has an AGP adapter (for an external graphics card) but most likely, you are currently using the integrated graphics on the motherboard. You cannot simply install any AGP card in the machine. It is best to look on the dell support site what kind of agp card (if any) you can install. This depends on the particular type (small for factor, etc). Some graphics cards need additional power, and the gx 270 (which is made for business use) does not have a powerful power supply. Do you need a low profile agp graphics card?

So do the research on the dell site (enter your dell express code) to see what kinds of cards you are able to install. Then, look on the PC Magazine or PC World website (or cnet) to see if any of the cards you saw on ebay got a good review.

Or consider buying a new card that fits your machine. AGP cards are quite inexpensive these days since most of the PCs went to PCI-Express some years ago.

How do I choose an new video card?

I am planning on replacing my desktops video card because of a faulty on board fan. How do I know which video card is for me or will work in my computer? My current card is a MSI GF4 MX440 AGP VID WTV. I am running Windows XP , I have an AMD Semperon Processor 2600+ , 1.60 GHz with 512 mb of ram. I don't play video games on my computer but do work with pictures and building webpages. Thanks in advance.|||About any AGP 8x card will work. You should get a Directx9 compatible board. Also a card with 128mb or 256mb ram will word good for what you need. It's really a personal choice on which one - kind of like Ford, Chevy or Dodge.

Shop at www.newegg.com

They have been in business for many years and have good prices. You can sort the video cards to filter down to what you need.

www.mwave.com has the same idea behind it.|||look for the lastes one in G force which will help u in picture and other software application to work fine, ur system configuration is ok,|||Look for a GeForce 7600 GS AGP 8x card|||well a decent video card should be good

I only have one on board video adapter. can I buy a video card to try in the slot on the mother board?

I have tried with my other desktop video card, it doesn't fit in any slot, so what kind of video card I should buy?|||you need a PCI-E slot for a video card. If you haven't got a manual, you can download one from the manufactuer's website, if you know the make and model of motherboard. If the board hasn't got one then you need a new motherboard. Remember the word "compatibility"|||Depending on the motherboard it can be either AGP (older) or PCI-E. If what you have is AGP then you need PCI-E

Should I really get a DX11 compatible desktop video card?

So I'm in need of a video card for my new system. (AMD Quad-core 2.6ghz, 4GB DDR3). And it seems like everyone it saying that I should just get a DX11 video card so that I won't have to upgrade again in the near future. Price is definitely important right now so I'm looking for a cheap but effective solution.

My main goal is to play some video games but it doesn't necessarily need to be Crysis on ultra settings. (My mobo supports PCI-E x16)|||I am currently in the process of purchasing a DX11 GPU.

Here is the card I will be buying: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

The reason I have decided to purchase a DX11 card is I want one now to avoid the upgrade in the future.|||DX11 cards are awesome... I think everyone is right, go all out and get the latest technology. Who knows what game will come out tomorrow, and DX11 specific titles will be coming out soon, you don't want to miss them.|||It will probably be a while before you see games that require directX 11 to run and if you are currently not maxing out your computers graphic capabilities I dont see the need for you to upgrade. Cards continually get better and the older cards keep dropping in price. I would wait until you run in to a game in which you need the extra power before upgrading the card. That way you will probably be able to get a better card for cheaper.

Computer desktop video card problem?

How many FPS does the Sapphire Radeon HD4850, 1GB GDDR3, PCI Express 2.0, Dual DVI, TV OUT, HDCP, CrossfireX, Dual Slot run GTA IV at?

I think 150 fps is very good, but then again i dont really have a clue. What would you think is immpressive for GTA IV and what type of video card would I need to run it like that.|||you wont be getting 150 fps on GTA IV thats for sure u might get like 35.even if u had a gtx 280 u whouldnt come close to 150 fps on GTA IV..my friend has a intel quad core and a gtx 280 4gs of ram and he barely get 150 on World of warcraft.if u want 150fps ur gonna need a gtx 295 but still idk if that can even do 150 fps.|||apny computer ko utha k bahir phenk do aur new le aao markeet se

I have about $250 dollars for a new desktop video card replacing my 9500 GT. What one should i get?

Antec EarthWatts EA650, $63 (using 10% off promo code),

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

Sapphire 100315L, Radeon 6850 1GB, $190,

http://www.directron.com/100315l.html|||I'd recommend a Radeon 5850 for that price range. There's an overclocked XFX card at Newegg right now for $215 after a $30 mail-in rebate, so $245 up front:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

If you'd rather stick with nVidia and not have to change your drivers, there is an overclocked GTX 465 for $209 after a $40 rebate:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

The Radeon is faster than the GeForce in most games:

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/1…

The differences there aren't dramatic, but the 5850 also runs much cooler, uses 100W less power under load and is a tiny bit quieter. Note that these benchmarks are for stock-clocked cards, but since both the cards I linked to above are overclocked from the factory I think in percentage terms the differences would be nearly identical. I have a stock-clocked 5850 and love it. It runs anything I throw at it, even Crysis: Warhead along with the Core i7 CPU. Personally recommended. But the GTX is a great card if you wish to stick with nVidia. Just make sure your power supply can handle it. You'll want at least 400W for the Radeon or 450W for the GeForce, and both cards require two 6-pin PCI-E supplemental power connectors from the power supply. Without two of those or the necessary Wattage the cards will be useless.

Dell inspiron 531s desktop video card problem?

ok i installed windows 7 on it and when i check the video card details it says that i have 499mb and that 446 is being used and only 64 i could use and now i cant play my games cause i dont have enough video memory how can i fix this and i cant istall win xp again cause i cant find the drivers anywhere|||I hate having to type this here but according to Dell the Inspiron 531S does not appear to be compatible with Windows 7.

You will need to reinstall XP, otherwise you will need to consider a new video card and bios in order to run Windows 7.

There are several websites offering drivers for various windows systems and hardware. Your XP disk will have some older drivers to get you started, you can update the XP OS via updater and can also got to the Windows update site and specify it search for updates to drivers.

Connecting my Desktop to laptop Video Card?

Recently, my video card overheated or some problem happened with my Desktops video card in which the capacitors on it popped. While I get this replaced, I was wondering if I could connect my desktop to my laptop and use the video card on there and or monitor, while still primarily using my desktop. Thank you.|||I don't think it's possible. You want to use the HDD that's on your desktop, so if anything, try removing it an inserting it on another machine.

Site where you can see the laptop equivelent of a desktop video card?

Im looking for somewhere where it has something like a chart with desktop graphic cards and has the laptop equivelents (equivelent performance). If there is anything like this please give me a link.|||might not be what u looking for but has chart for cards

What's the equivalent desktop video card for G 105M?

I have a laptop and my video card is G 105M

Also, can I play Sims3, GTA4, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Mirrors Edge, and Assassins Creed with my graphic card?

I know i qualify for other requirements, but I just can't find out if my video card is or not.|||"Compared to desktop graphics cards, the upcoming 9300 GE / GS should be similar, as it will also stem from the G98 core. Still the desktop counterparts are usually higher clocked and therefore faster."

http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeFo…

G 105M scores 2422 points in 3DMark 06 @ 1280x1024

According to this review, performance should be similar to ATI X1600XT/Nvidia 6800 Ultra

Taking a Desktop Video Cards and added it to a Laptop?

I was wondering if its possible to take a video cards from a desktop computer and put it in a laptop?|||Nope. Laptops' are completely different from desktops'. Laptop GPUs are chips in the MXM format, not full-on cards.

--

The best thing you can do is update your video drivers. There's not much else you can do for most laptops.

Unless you've ordered the laptop with the card you wanted, you can't swap it out. Unlike Desktop graphics cards, which are limited only by available slots, Laptop graphics cards are hard to find, and even harder to replace.

Laptop GPUs are not cards at all, but GPU chips soldered into the motherboard (which is why the ones with dedicated cards are said to have "discrete graphics" and others have the built-in "integrated graphics" rather than having "cards"), so as are some of the CPUs - meaning you have to melt the metal solder to even take them out. Even then, it's not 100% that your motherboard will support the new card. This is the way most laptops today are made. You'll have to be a real expert to be able to swap them successfully - even then success isn't 100%. Manufacturers will not take them back for an upgrade.

Furthermore, your laptop motherboard chipset will not allow for you to upgrade to a discrete GPU if you ordered it with the integrated card.

Unless you have a laptop with a separate graphics unit or an MXM slot, you won't be able to upgrade/replace it. Check your manual to see if they allow any upgrades. Few laptops today allow you to do so (the Alienware line being one of the very last) I know for sure that recent Dell laptops use the soldering style.

-----------

The only option you have left is to use an Expresscard-adpated graphics unit, but not yet. Maybe in the near future; right now external graphics through Expresscard is in the process of development/release.

There aren't that many for sale yet in the U.S., but if you're lucky, you can find an ASUS XG Station for sale somewhere (but it won't be cheap considering its around $300 for the dock alone). You just need to have an Expresscard slot. They're only offering the 7900GS and 8600GT (desktop card) for the dock so far, but from the looks of the design you might fit other PCI-E x16 graphic cards into it in the future.

However, because of the slower transfer bandwith through the ExpressCard port in comparison to the PCI-E x16 GPUS usually use, they will not perform nearly as well as built-in/native cards.

http://www.hwupgrade.com/articles/print/…

http://img250.imageshack.us/img250/1671/…|||You and me both. Sorry boet, not possible. BUT there is talk of USB 3 and you might be able to get and external USB 3 video card in the not to distant futrure.|||Nope it's not possible since laptops have an entirely different layout from the desktop. Besides that there wouldn't even be an expansion bay available for the video card.

Gateway desktop video card upgradeable?

I recently bought a gateway desktop. The processer can run 100% of pc games released in 12 months and so can my RAM. The slight problem is, my graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce GT 330) is a decent graphics card but I just noticed it can only run 69% of games released in the last 12 months. Presumably this is at maximum resolution settings.

My question is, is it possible to upgrade this card?

Thnks|||Typically there is little to no restriction on video card upgrade from a pure compatibility perspective. As long as the card interface is the same (pcie x16, x4) the card will work.... except for:

1) check card length. Some cards are really long and can't fit in a case.

2) power hungry cards. Some fast cards require a 4 pin interface to supply supplemental power to the card. There are new cards that do not require supplemental power. I bought the card linked below and have no game issues. This card is very similar in performance to the nvidia 9600 GT which requires additional power.

If I was you, I'd keep the 330 for a while until the specs required for starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 are released :)

Is HP PAVILION A1720N DESKTOP VIDEO CARD INTEGRATED?

Can someone please tell me if this HP DESKTOP has an integrated video card or not? The graphics that this desktop has is Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950. If it is integrated is there anyway to remove the video card so I can upgrade it to a better video card? Thanks in advance for the help.|||See your computer specifications here:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docum…

This is what it says:

Video graphics Integrated graphics using Intel GMA 950

Also supports PCI Express x16 graphics cards

It should be upgradeable to any PCIe x 16 video card|||yes you do have integrated video... when a brand computer is shipped it will have video on it one way or the other... either integrated or it will have a video card, so don't worry, you will be able to plug a monitor in ;)

now integrated video is really bad... I mean its enough to turn on the computer, go online, watch youtube even, but pretty much say no to any kind of modern gaming...

if it's onboard video its really easy to upgrade, just buy a new video card and put it into the computer (nothing to remove as your vcard slot will be empty as your probably is) intall the drivers off the CD or internet (internet recommended as they are newer) and you are off gaming!!!

if it has a video card installed already, the process is very similar, its just you will have to remove your old card and put the new one in place... but that's a 5 second task, so no worries...|||technology-http://mtechlaptop.com/
